Building Excellent
Schools (BES), a non-profit based in Boston that trains urban charter school founders, has
identified Entrepreneurship Preparatory School as a high-performing
school model. Out of all the high-performing programs
across the country, E Prep is one of 15 school models that
will be studied by the incoming BES fellowship class.
Marshall Emerson, E Prep Head of School, served in a BES fellowship in 2005.
We are proud of [E Prep]
and we celebrate [E Prep’s] success and champion [E Prep’s]
work always,” said Sue Walsh, fellowship director at BES.
“Please share and sing our praises to [the E Prep] staff,
[the E Prep] board, and [the E Prep] families. We sing
[E Prep’s] praises to all within ear shot.”
E Prep is a unique educational
option for Cleveland and Cleveland area families, focused on preparing
students for college preparatory high schools. The school is
unique in that it adheres to :
- Extended school days
- An extended school year
- High expectations and
enforced code of conduct
- Mandatory uniforms
- Mandatory Saturday school
for students who do not meet benchmarks
- Frequent academic assessment
of students
- Weekly professional
development for teachers; high level of teamwork
The majority of E Prep’s students
live in the city of Cleveland, and 75 percent qualify for the
federal government’s free/reduced price lunch program.
"This is truly an incredible
honor for E Prep,” said Michael Cristal, chair of the E Prep
Board of Directors. “We look to Building Excellent Schools
as the thought leader in excellent urban charter schools.
For them to recognize E Prep after only our second year
speaks volumes to our teachers and staff for creating an
environment where education can flourish and excuses are not
accepted."
