E CITY ...it's working

Seventh Annual E CITY Awareness Breakfast - WOW!

Wow!  Our 7th Annual Awareness Breakfast was the best yet.  We can't thank you enough for your support of E CITY and our students.  Our featured graduates at the breakfast are proof that E CITY is improving the lives of teens in Cleveland, and hundreds of inner-city teens each year are becoming responsible for their economic futures - it's working!

On May 5th a crowd of almost 600 supporters filled the ballroom at Landerhaven.  We want to thank all who support E CITY and we are thrilled to have exceeded our goal to raise $135,000. We are also happy that the news of E CITY is spreading. Thank you to everyone who invited a friend to attend the breakfast.  We had 109 first time pledges to E CITY this year.

E CITY wants to thank the Corporate Sponsors who help make this breakfast such a success.

E CITY thanks Min. Temeka Payton, Director of Student Recruitment at E Prep, and the Rev. Louise Westfall, pastor of Fairmount Church for giving prayers of thanks and the benediction at the Breakfast.

Once again the main program was lead by the E CITY alumnae, starting promptly at 7:30 am and ending a little early at 8:57.

  • Blaine Mickens and Derric Studamire were the Breakfast Emcess
  • Giberto Cortes talked about his Business Plan
  • Raquel Fuentes talked about the opportunity E CITY provided her
  • Fantashia Stevens, 2008 National Winner of the NFTE Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, talked about her experiences as a young entrepreneur

E CITY is thankful for the volunteers who made the breakfast registration process a success, and for the E Prep students who served as greeters. Thanks too, to Head of School Marshall Emerson, who gave us an update on E Prep’s success.

John Zitzner, founder of E CITY, gave a compelling speech about the ways that E CITY is working in the lives of Cleveland teen. He also announced that it is time to find a full-time President to lead E CITY through its next phase of growth, while he devotes all of his time to Friends of E Prep Schools.

The E CITY alumnae who were selling their products at the breakfast, also found the crowds to be very supportive. A few of them sold out!

SAVE THE DATE E CITY's Eighth Annual Awareness Breakfast will be on Monday, May 4, 2009, at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven.
